I Sing to the Earth and She Sings Back
I Sing to the Earth and She Sings Back is a collection of ten personal essays about restoring humanity’s relationship with the natural world, informed by decades of learning from Indigenous teachers and the land itself.
Forgotten Fires
This book is based on a manuscript, completed in 1954, by American anthropologist Omer Stewart. A professor at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Stewart had at the time already spent many years investigating indigenous burning practices, mainly by conducting extensive interviews with native people throughout North America. Editors Lewis and Anderson have added to Stewart’s work an introduction, anthropological and ecological critiques, references, and annotations.
Before the Wilderness
An anthology of collected articles, Before the Wilderness describes how California Indians acted and continue to act as stewards of their environment. By burning, pruning, tilling, harvesting judiciously, collecting seeds from annuals, and irrigating, they were able to satisfy their food and cultural needs without exhausting the populations of plants and animals on which they depended.
All of nature is in me, and a bit of me is in all of nature.
